5 Top Small Business Website Tips

5 Top Small Business Website Tips

Reading Time: 3 minutes

If you are a small business or start-up, one of the most powerful tools in your marketing armoury is your business website. This mainstay of your online presence is the destination of all your digital marketing engagement and without it, you can’t hope to make more sales, get more clients or convince customers you’re the company to do business with.

The key to a successful website is not only the graphics and slick design (though these are important, of course). It’s the UX. This stands for User Experience and has become increasingly important as our digital technology has developed. What it means is actually giving your customer all the opportunity possible to engage effectively and easily with your business at all times.

Most people will be accessing your website on their mobile phones rather than a traditional desktop. If you do not have a mobile-friendly website that shows up clearly on a smartphone, you’re likely to lose out because people will become frustrated and search elsewhere.

With this in mind, here are our 5 top tips for improving your small business website so that it works most effectively for your customers, and for your business:

1. Click to Call Phone Number

Potential customers may want to call you directly. The last thing they want is to have to remember your number in order to key it into their mobile.

Your phone number must be clearly displayed on your website and must be a click to call link that automatically dials your business. This is quite a simple point, however you won’t believe how many business websites we come across that do not have this functionality!

2. Boost Your Mobile Business Website Speed

Many things can slow down your website. The truth is that Google and other search engines are likely to penalise your rankings if your website is taking too long to materialise in front of customers. If you’re not sure how fast your website is, you can use Google’s website speed tester to check things out.

We’re far more impatient when it comes to download speeds nowadays. If we don’t get a response in a few seconds, we’re likely to click away. Our advice is don’t risk losing customers because of slow mobile download speeds, find out what the problem is and fix it asap.

3. Link to Social Media Platforms

Want your visitors to share your content on their social media platforms or follow your social media accounts?

It’s amazing the number of businesses that don’t have sharing tools and their social media links highlighted on their website. And those that do, often hide these away at the bottom of pages. Make them front and centre to ensure more engagement!

4. Invest in a Business Website Chatbot

There are lots of benefits to using chatbots, AI software that can do the heavy lifting when it comes to the standard questions people often ask about your business. Not only does it give customers answers they are looking for immediately, it greatly improves UX (It doesn’t have to be expensive either!)

5. Claim your Google Business Profile

Google offers a range of different services aimed predominantly at local small businesses. Claiming your business profile means that your location and business information appears on searches. Having accurate profile information, and by adding products and services, you can get additional promotion and visibility online.

Making the most of your website is vitally important if you are a small business. These simple tips will improve the user experience, help promote better engagement, and boost your business growth.

Online Reputation Management for Small Businesses

Reading Time: 3 minutes

There’s an old adage in business: It can take years to build a solid reputation. It can take just a few seconds and one mistake to bring it all crashing down.

In the past, your reputation was built mainly on service, relationships and brand messaging. Nowadays we have digital marketing and social media marketing that allow us to reach out to individuals around the world. It’s the marketing equivalent of supercharging word of mouth advertising.

This is however a double-edged sword, as many businesses have found out the hard way. While it is easy to develop an online persona, it can be more difficult to control, especially with regards to what people say about your business on review sites and social media.

What is Online Reputation Management?

Online Reputation Management (or ORM) is a wide-ranging area of business development and marketing.

It’s not only about ensuring that any negative news about your company is addressed and managed, it’s everything from your brand development, the way you build your reputation and how you put in process and procedures that ensure your business can realise its full potential.

ORM isn’t just important for large corporations either. It’s vital for small business enterprises as well, particularly if they are looking to grow and become more successful.

Why is ORM So Important?

Building an online reputation isn’t that difficult. Building a great online reputation, however, is a whole different story. The public’s perception of your business is vital to its future success. If you are perceived as a reliable, trustworthy business, customers are likely to buy your products or hire your services. If you are perceived negatively, they are more likely to work with your competitors.

Online reputation management is challenging because you can be mentioned just about anywhere online at any time.

Let’s take social media as an example.

What happens if someone on Twitter posts a bad review of your support services and tells all their friends and family what a bad experience they have had? What if five or six people retweet this complaint? And five or six of their followers then do the same?

It’s easy to see how one bad review can suddenly spread like wildfire, cutting your hard-earned reputation to the quick. Of course, part of your online reputation management would be to respond to this review and manage it accordingly. Damage management is time-sensitive and there’s not a lot of it going around.

How ORM Works on Different Platforms

The complication with online reputation management is that it spreads across a broad range of different platforms. A complaint on Facebook is slightly different from one on Twitter. On Facebook, for example, you can go into a lot more detail and there are more groups that can help spread a message whether it’s positive or negative.

Then there are review sites. Recent research suggests that 85% of us trust online reviews and more than half of us prefer to see a 4-star rating or greater before we commit to buy. You ignore these at your peril.

For small businesses, coping with ORM can be challenging. The biggest reason for this is lack of budget and lack of resources. There are certain steps you should be taking, however:

  1. The first is to have a presence on all sites where you are likely to be talked about. If you are not aware of what’s being said, then you can’t do anything about it.
  2. The second is to have a process in place for dealing with complaints or adverse press about your business. There is a right way and a wrong way to do this and being confrontational is not the solution.
  3. Finally, you have to have a positive online reputation management process in place to counteract any bad press but also to spread the good word about your business.

These are three small things that can have wide-ranging consequences for your business when it comes to reputation management. If you would like to find out more about ORM and how it should fit into your business operation, contact the team at WoYa Digital today.

Keyword Analysis to Boost Your Rankings

Keyword Analysis to Boost Your Rankings

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Many companies are operating on a tight budget. This means that every effort must be made to maximise the impact of any digital marketing efforts. This in turn is why building the right foundations is crucial, ensuring that you’re not only operating from a firm base but are also more likely to succeed and maximise your marketing spend.

One area that businesses tend to overlook or not really understand, is keyword analysis. If your aim is to reach potential customers online, understanding how they are searching online is vital.

What is Keyword Analysis?

When users search for a product, service or information online, they will use certain search terms which they will input on a platform like Google. In marketing jargon, these are keywords.

If a user is looking for somewhere to eat they might type ‘local restaurants’ or more specifically ‘local curry restaurants’. Each sector, business type, product or service has its own set of search terms associated with it. Keyword analysis is the cornerstone for identifying the words and phrases that people are likely to use to find a business similar to yours, so that you can include them in your marketing strategy to optimise your content.

Services like Google AdWords feature a keyword planner that allows you to do research into the most successful words and phrases for your business. It will reveal how many people are searching for a particular term. You can also search competitor sites and see which keywords they are using and how popular these are.

Why is Keyword Analysis Important?

Including the right keywords in your website structure, content and blogs should greatly increase your online visibility. Website digital marketing is built around creating content that is likely to show up on search engines such as Google.

At its heart, this is very simple: keywords found in the website content match what people are typing into a search engine. Google logs this and ranks your website accordingly. Of course, it doesn’t mean that your website will rush to the top of the rankings if you add a few words here and there.

SEO with keywords will depend on many factors such as competition in the market place and the location of your business. Getting it right involves a good deal of work and experimentation.

How Keywords Impact the Build of Your Website

Identifying certain keywords to focusing on should influence your website design. It might dictate what text you use for title pages, subheadings, the text you lay down on each page and where it is positioned. Keywords should also be included in the HTML or coding of your site with meta titles and descriptions.

You could also include blogs to focus on certain keywords or combinations of keywords to improve your visibility online.

Google has advanced its algorithms in recent years which has put more emphasis on good quality content. This means that you can’t just stuff your chosen keyword in every available space. Your website needs to focus on user experience and flow to make sense to your visitor as well as show up on search engines.

Competitor Keyword Analysis

One good place to start when you’re trying to find the right words and phrases to focus on for your business is to take a look at what your competitors are doing. Pick the businesses that always seem to be ranking highly for standard searches and do a competitor keyword analysis on them.

This should reveal what they rank highly for and show what customers related to your sector are actually searching for.

Keyword analysis reveals a lot more than the standard words and phrases associated with your business. Carrying this research out before you begin running marketing campaigns and developing your website is important. Once you have this base keyword foundation in place, you should expect to see greater levels of relevant traffic and more conversions on your site.

8 Awesome Benefits of a Website Chatbot

8 Awesome Benefits of a Website Chatbot

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Technology continues to develop at an astonishing pace, helping businesses progress, develop and thrive. One area of focus currently attracting a lot of attention is the use of artificial intelligence or AI. AI is having a massive impact on business by not only cutting down on admin workload, but also allowing companies of all sizes to achieve a level of customer service to rival larger organisations. Cue the website chatbot!

So What is Website Chatbot …

… we hear you ask. A chatbot is an AI software programme that basically simulates having a conversation with another human being. The chances are, if you have gone onto a website and used their live talk or chat service to find information, you have engaged with a chatbot. It is usually a pop up window of speech bubble on the bottom right hand corner of a website screen that will ask you if you would like to engage.

The AI software which currently being developed is becoming so advanced that it can be difficult to know whether you are talking to a real person or an actual robot!

How Website Chatbots Work

Chatbots, or at least the software which makes them work, have actually been around for a long time. It’s only in recent years, however, that they have reached their current level of sophistication.

Let’s say you go onto a retail website and want to find a particular product. Usually, you would click into a search panel and type in what you need or select it from a group of menus. If there is a chatbot on the website you can ask questions and get immediate answers, refine your decision on what you want to buy and get more information.

The website chatbot will be programmed to understand your intent and respond appropriately with relevant answers. The more sophisticated the software, the more likely you are to get the answers you are looking for.

Perhaps there are some complexities and issues regarding your product or service that you know you are always going to have to answers questions on. Your website is open 24/7 but you and your office isn’t. If you have chatbot software loaded to answer the main queries, it not only reduces the amount of time you will need to spend answering emails and telephone calls, but also reduce the cost in time (and potentially staff)  to your business. At the same time, your customers get instant answers and responses – we all like happy customers!

Many consumers now accept chatbots as a standard part of the online world. They don’t mind (or know) if they are talking to a computer as long as they get the answers they are looking for, and get them immediately. A recent survey by Drift showed that:

  • 64% respondents saw a 24/7 service as an important reason for chatbots
  • 75% expected to get an instant response

While baby boomers might be a little reticent about chatbots, younger generations such as millennials are far more welcoming. According to the research, 40% of us don’t care if we are talking to a bot or a real person. For customers it’s all about getting service on demand and any queries answered quickly and effectively.

The Real Benefits of Website Chatbots

So, if you are going to invest in a website chatbot, you want to know what the real benefits are for your business. From improved customer service to lower costs and better lead generation, there’s certainly a lot to take advantage of:

1. Improved Customer Service

The modern customer is more discerning and demanding. If they have a question to be answered, they want it answered now.

Chatbots allow you to provide immediate engagement and give immediate answers to questions. That not only saves time for your customers and keeps them satisfied, it also streamlines your business while improving the potential for a conversion.

2. Your Business is Always Available

Catching customers at just the right time when they are looking and ready to buy, hire your services or need support is key. Chatbots basically ensure that your business is open 24/7, 365 days a year and available to answer the most important queries, take a quote request, or encourage a sale.

3. Customer Satisfaction

With effect website chatbot software setup you should expect increased customer satisfaction and engagement. There’s nothing worse from a customer point of view than to have to wait for a response or not get accurate information when they want it. If you can remedy these frustrations, your customers are likely to stay loyal and engage more often. It definitely gives you an advantage over your competitor who is not immediately customer responsive!

4. Chatbot Personality

The sophistication of chatbots means that they can be tailored to reflect your business personality and create an emotional connection with present and future customers. Responses can be tailored so that individuals feel they are talking to a real person and this will help your business create a stronger rapport. Not only that, chatbot software can expand, learn (yes really!) and develop over time.

5. Customers Prefer Chat

It’s easier and faster to use a chat or messaging service to get answers than sending an email or picking up the phone. Consumers are now becoming used to seeing chatbot software on websites or on social media and have no reservations about using them. As the survey above highlighted, 75% of customers expected to get an instant response

6. Business Perception

Consumers love to do business with companies that are constantly looking at new and innovative ways to keep them happy. While your competitors are still using a search box or menu to guide consumers to their desired solution, you’ll certainly be identified as modern, cutting edge and more effective business if you provide a chatbot.

7. Better Lead Generation

If you are responding immediately to your customer’s needs, it stands to reason that you are going to generate a lot more leads than if they have to wait for your support team to get back to them. Buying decisions are often time sensitive so an immediate response to any queries can only stand in your favour!

8. Cost Saving

As all business owners know – time is money! Spending less time answering calls and emails will free you up to focus on other important tasks. There is also the potential to spend less on employing customer care staff to answer queries and deal with calls. In addition you won’t have the need for out of hours staff to be on hand 24/7.

Redefining how you support customers who visit your website by introducing a chatbot can make a huge difference to the operation of your business.  According to Gartner, by 2020 25% of customer support facilities will use at least some form of virtual helper or chatbot – we suggest you don’t wait any longer!

Review your 2019 Digital Marketing Strategy

Reading Time: 3 minutes
There’s no time like the beginning of a fresh new year to look back at where you’ve come from, and plan where you’re going to next. From time to time you need to take a step back and review what’s happening within your business, not least how your digital marketing is performing and whether changes or tweaks are required in your digital marketing strategy.

If you run a small business, this type of general audit is required every 4 to 6 months and will help you guide your business marketing through growth and expansion.

For a good overall digital marketing strategy audit process, make sure you cover the following steps:

1. Review Your Business Objectives

Before you can begin to take a look at the future, you need review what’s happened in the past and where your business objectives now stand.

There may well be some goals that have been reached, changes you’ve made over time which have led to better productivity or results. There may also be plenty of things that you haven’t achieved and which need to be given greater focus.

Everything you do must be actioned with your business objectives in mind.

2. Identify and Establish Your Business Goals

The next step is what you want to achieve for your small business over the ensuing 6 to 12 months. You will have goals that you want to achieve in the short term but other, longer-term goals that you want to work towards too. These goals need to align so that you deliver a comprehensive strategy for your business where the goals support each other to help growth.

Short term goals may need to be achieved in order to enable you to reach a long term goal.

3. Identify Who Your Customers Are

As businesses develop and grow, often their customer and target markets change and grow too! Your product or service might now appeal to a wider audience then when you first started out.

Carrying out a review of who your customers are will help inform your future marketing choices and dictate the kind of content and platforms you are going to use.

4. Identify Which Digital Marketing Platforms to Use

Establishing first who your customers are and what your business goals are will help you identify which digital marketing platforms are going to work best for your business marketing.

This might include, for example, reaching out more on social media or employing a strategy of email marketing to existing customers. If your target market is individuals, then Facebook and Instagram may be where you want to focus your efforts, but if your target market is company directors, then you may want to focus your efforts on LinkedIn.

5. Recycle Existing or Create New Content

One thing many businesses don’t do is review existing content to see whether they can use it again as it is, or tweak it slightly for re use. You could have a large archive of existing material which can easily be brought up to date with minor tweaks or changes and reused, instead of creating all new content in the new year.

Blogs may need to be updated to make them more current. Content can be repurposed to give it new life. This can save you a lot of trouble trying to come up with new content ideas while still keeping your marketing current.

6. Invest in Scheduling Software

Fabulous modern scheduling software is invaluable in supporting us to cope with the demands of consistent and regular marketing. Scheduling software enables you to bring different marketing campaigns together and form a full and informative picture of what is currently going on with your strategy. If you don’t currently use scheduling software or your existing provision isn’t delivering what you need, then there is no time like the present!

Do You Need Support for Your Digital Marketing?

As small businesses grow, their owners have more and more to do, and their focus is directed in many more directions. Digital marketing requires dedicated focus, planning and lots of time.

The Power of Online Customer Reviews

The Power of Online Customer Reviews

Reading Time: 3 minutes

What is the first thing you do before you contact a new business? Of course, you check them out online before engaging with them!

Getting your business noticed and improving sales is a complicated process. It involves making use of several marketing approaches including having a great website, SEO, consistent social media engagement and eye-catching content. Additionally, one of the most powerful and often neglected advertisements for your business comes from your customers themselves – through online customer reviews.

Whether you sell products online or you are a plumber, builder or firm of accountants providing a service, people really want to know what other people think of you.

These are the key reasons that you should encourage online customer reviews:

1. Online Customer Reviews influence purchasing decisions

According to the Local Search Association:

  • 68% of us are likely to engage with a business if we read positive reviews about them
  • Only 18% of people look at a review and say it doesn’t influence their decision making
  • Over half of customers look at the star rating when making up their mind

There’s no doubt that if you can garner some good online customer reviews for your business or product, you are likely to improve your chances of someone buying from you or hiring your services in the future.

2. Online customer reviews are great for building trust and credibility with potential customers

There’s the much-used adage in business that people buy from people. You can add to that: people buy from people THEY TRUST.

You can put a whole host of information on your website to improve SEO and create a slicker sales funnel to get your leads to buy a product or hire your service. If you don’t have that added ingredient of trust however, it could make little or no difference. Having reviews on your site or posted on industry specific websites boost your credibility considerably.

3. Online customer reviews help boost your SEO rankings

SEO has developed considerably over the last decade. It’s no longer just about putting in the right keywords and hoping for the best. It involves putting in a whole range of different building blocks. Google reviews, for example, are important for building your standing in local listings.

4. Online customer reviews can lead to improved click through rates to your website

People are more likely to respond to positive reviews, and therefore click through to your business website from search engines and rating sites.

Encouraging customers to leave Reviews

It’s all well and good understanding the power of online customer reviews but how do you actually get customers to leave one? The key is making it as easy as possible for your customer:

    • Create several spaces to leave reviews, not just on your website. Try signing up to sites such as Yelp, and Google My Business
    • Don’t forget to optimise your own website so that people know where to leave reviews and how to view them
    • Provide your customer with an incentive to write a review. For example, if you run a coffee shop or bar, a free drink may entice someone to leave a good comment or two about your business
    • Just ask. No, it’s not rude to ask someone if they can leave a review for your business. Send them a thank you for their business via email with a link to the review site and you might be surprised at the response you get
    • Finally, if you get a review (whether it’s positive or negative) take the time to respond. It’s a way of building engagement and it shows that you care about your customers

New website launch aimed at South American Adventurers by Woya

New website launch aimed at South American Adventurers by Woya

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Some projects are more exciting than others, so when we were approached by a Chichester business looking for website design to support a project in Bolivia, South America, we were excited to know more. Even better was that the business actively supports the well known and award winning local vision charity ANDEAN MEDICAL MISSION (AMM).

One of the more difficult elements of most web design projects is getting quality content and imagery. However vAMMos and AMM have been on charity expeditions and trips to Bolivia for many years, so we had more than enough fantastic text, images and even video content to fill the website many times over.

vAMMos provides English speaking bespoke adventure tours in Bolivia, South America, exploring the towering snow capped Andean mountains or the winding rivers of the Bolivian Amazon. Over the last 6 years Dave and his team have been providing the logistics and support to safely position surgical teams into remote locations to carry out amazing sight restoration work in the Bolivian Amazon. Their contacts and knowledge, combined with British standards, make planning an adventure of a lifetime a safe and enjoyable experience. They provide a strong warning to adventurers that they don’t offer package holidays.

  • “We don’t do package holidays, but we do like working with guests who want to do something for the first time. How many people have walked the length of a river from start to finish? Do you want to make a trek that hasn’t been done before? Cycle or climb a hidden mountain or swim in secret rivers and lakes. Are you raising money for your favourite charity or finding the real you? Talk to us about it. We love adventure!”

Chichester business looking for website design

One critical area for this website design project was ensuring that the website was fully visible and speedy as a mobile website. The concept of working in poor signal areas such as Bolivia made this more essential than normal. With over 70% of website visitors and views coming via a mobile phone.

We know vAMMos is delighted with the end results following this kind review on Google:

  • “We loved working with the team at Woya Digital. Very professional and they built us a website just as we wanted. We spent lots of time discussing ideas and we made many changes in order to get it just right. I couldn’t be happier with the end result. Great value as well. I went with a monthly option where they do all the updates for me and I can get on with running my tours whilst they promote the site for me. Definitely call them.”

If you are a Chichester business looking for website design, Woya Digital could be just the solution with an effective business website. Simply call us or even schedule a call at a convenient time to suit you.

About the Andean Medical Mission
vAMMos supports the work of the Andean Medical Mission (AMM) in their efforts to eliminate avoidable blindness in Northern Bolivia. The amazing surgeons and support teams travel every year to remote villages where they carry out sight saving operations free of charge, for the many blind people living in the Amazon. Let’s speak about fundraising for AMM.
